  The trail was 2.1 miles each way to the Maryland Heights lookout. There are a few other paths though for different outlooks. The overlook is at an elevation of 650 feet, and it's a hike. The trail was steep but not impossible for someone in shape. Bring a water bottle and be prepared! The majority of the trail is uphill. But the view of Harper's Ferry and the rivers was worth it.
  
  The parking at the trailhead was very limited. I had spent the day in Harper's Ferry Lower Town, so I parked at the national park visitor center. I'd recommend doing that and checking out the town. They run shuttles from the parking area at the visitor center to historic lower town, and from there you can walk to the trailhead. You cross a trellis bridge going over the two rivers and follow a gravel path to the trailhead.
